Abstract

As a hybrid stepping motor driver, based on a combination of L297/298 driver chip is a more common one.
This was discussed in detail based on the kind of drive hybrid stepping motor under three operating modes,
gives the corresponding MCU interface program, included in the program interface hardware circuit
and software programming interface.

Introduction

Stepper motor is an electrical pulse into the angular displacement of the actuator.
When the stepping motor driver receives a pulse signal,
it will drive a stepper motor to set the direction of rotation of a fixed angle (ie, step angle).
By controlling the number of pulses to control the angular displacement, so as to achieve accurate positioning of the object;
control the pulse frequency to control the motor rotation speed and acceleration so as to achieve the purpose of speed.

Stepper motors are three types:
permanent magnet (PM), reaction formula (VR) and a hybrid (HB).
Permanent magnet stepper motor is generally two-phase, torque and smaller, step angle of 7.5 degrees or 15 degrees;
reaction is generally three-phase stepper motor can achieve high torque output, step angle of 1.5 degrees,
but the noise and vibration are great; hybrid stepper motor mix of permanent magnet and reactive advantages.
It is divided into two phases and five-phase,
two-phase hybrid stepping motor step angle of 1.8 degrees while the five-phase hybrid stepping motor step angle of 0.72 degrees.
Hybrid stepper motor which is most widely used.

Based L297/298 driver chip two-phase bipolar hybrid stepping motor driver (see Figure 1),

Wherein L297 is a stepper motor controller for bipolar two-phase stepper motors or four-phase unipolar stepper motor control.
The output signal can be controlled with the L297 L298 double bridge driver IC for driving voltages of up to 46V, 4A less total current stepper motor.
L297 also be used to control the composition of the discrete Darlington circuit to drive the higher voltage,
higher current stepper motor. L297 only clocks, direction and mode input signal generated by the internal phase,
thereby reducing the burden of the microprocessor and programming.
L297 fixed chopping frequency of the PWM constant current chopping mode.
L297 mainly by the decoder, two fixed-frequency PWM constant current chopper chopper and output control logic [2].
L298 is used to drive the stepper motor IC, using the queen bridged mode to drive, as is the bipolar drive,
stepper motor exciter stator windings can be fully utilized, the stepper motor to achieve optimum drive [3].

A principle

Based L297/298 drive hybrid stepping motor has three different operating modes: the half-step mode (HALF STEP) (see Figure 2),
whole step one phase excitation mode (FULL STEP ONE PHASE ON) (see Figure 3) ,
whole step two phase excitation mode (FULL STEP TWO PHASE ON) (see Figure 4).
Stepper motor operates in half-step mode, the internal stator winding phase and
two-phase excitation is a white, this time to accept a pulse each stepper motor, only turned half step angle.
Stepper motor operates in half-step mode, the stepper motor torque obtained values smaller than conventional.
Stepper motors operate in full step one-phase excitation mode, the internal stator winding excitation at any one time is a phase,
this time to accept a pulse each stepper motor, turned a step angle. Stepper motors operate in full step one-phase excitation mode,
access to regular torque stepper motor. Stepper motors operate in full step two-phase excitation mode,
the internal stator winding excitation at any one time are two phases, each time receiving a stepper motor pulse,
turned a step angle. Stepper motors operate in full step two-phase excitation mode,
the stepper motor torque obtained relative to the first two terms is the largest.
